Accomod

Arrival in Fukuoka

Fukuoka has is a small one runway airport not far from the city centre. It has two terminals Domestic and International on opposite sides of the runway. Arriving with AirAsia at the international terminal you need to catch the free shuttlebus to the Domestic Terminal. From there you take the subway to Hakata Station or beyond if your hotel is near the subway line. The subway is down the stairs from where you are dropped off by the bus. The airport is the last stop on the line so you can take the trains on either track.

The subway line parallels the coast and we will be using it to get around over the weekend.

Where to stay #1

There are two adjacent areas to look for accommodation. Hakata near the station and Tenjin. A hasher will have no difficulty walking between the two areas, at least before they start drinking.

Around Hakata station there are many hotels catering for travelers and there is evening entertainment.

Your Hares have booked into the APA hotel near Hakata station. APA is a Japanese chain of reasonable 3* hotels. There are two in Fukuoka, both convenient for the weekend. If you book on Bookings.com you can cancel FOC until the beginning of June.

Your hares are doing a recce at the beginning of May. The website will be updated after their return with further advice and recommendations.

Choose a hotel with easy access to a subway station and your travel problems are solved. Taxis are expensive. Somebody has to pay for the driver’s white gloves.

Further out on the subway line accommodation prices are cheaper.

Where to Stay #2

Hotels should be in areas on the ORANGE Subway Line

The city centre is in the RED circle. It is the best area but also the most expensive.

Hakata is the old city centre (Blue circle) and is still lively.  It is where the main train station is located so a good location for anyone traveling to Nagasaki, Kyoto, Osaka etc in the days after the runs.

The Yellow circle shows the closest station to the ferry port. The Ferry port is at the tip of the yellow circle.

And we're sure no one at all will be interested that Nakasu Kawabata is one of the biggest red light zones in Japan.
